Invited Session on Power Electronics Application Technologies in Rail Transit: Intelligent Interface Design, Advanced Control Strategies, Modelling and Reliability

The 15th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications (ICIEA2020) will be held during 21-25 June 2020, in Kristiansand, Norway. The Conference is organized by IEEE Industrial Electronics Chapter of Singapore, University of Agder, and IEEE Singapore Section. IEEE Industrial Electronics Society is the financial and technical sponsor.  The proceedings of past ICIEA have all been included in the IEEE Xplore database and indexed by EI Compendex and ISI Proceedings.

ICIEA 2020 marks the 15th Anniversary of the ICIEA conferences. As a premier conference, ICIEA provides an excellent forum for scientists, researchers, engineers and industrial practitioners throughout the world to present and discuss the latest technology advancement as well as future directions and trends in Industrial Electronics.

Aims &Scope

With the development of transportation electrification nowadays, power electronics applications play an important role in rail transit industry. Operating as a connection unit between Grid and locomotive loads, power converters need to maintain stable voltage or provide sufficient power to the load. However, due to influence of locomotive load, many power quality problems are caused such as rich harmonics, poor power factor and severe unbalance. Moreover, with the development of high-speed-railway, the requirements for the traction power quality and capacity have been increased. To improve the power quality, stability and reliability, power converters with intelligent functions designing, modelling and reliability analysis are deeply involved in recent research. Original innovative research papers addressing Intelligent Interface topologies and controller design, advanced control strategies for optimal function, modelling and performance analysis, prognostic and health management on reliability enhancement are invited, but not limited to:

  • Intelligent Interface Design: new topologies or improved modulation methods for the power converters in rail transit are required to flexibly manage the bidirectional power flow, quickly isolate the fault from power grid and optimally guarantee the energy utilization by properly regulating.
  • Advanced Control Strategies for Power Converters: advanced control strategies focus on power converters’ optimal functions and compensation aiming for power quality improvement.
  • Modeling of Paralleled Converter System: researches focused on the locomotive load characteristics analysis, modeling, stability analysis, control and simulation of multiple paralleled power converter system are focused to guarantee the stability and optimal operation of traction systems.
  • Reliability: improved Prognostic and Health Management and related researches to enhance power conversion system reliability.

Research papers with proper consideration for practical applications, e.g., in the form of hardware in loop simulation, prototypes, and/or with industrial collaboration partnership will be considered favorably for acceptance.
